Finding great places to hunt can be difficult, especially for those who are new to the world of hunting. This article offers some tips and tricks of how to lock down that perfect hunting location.
Friends and Family
Friends and Family are probably your best source for finding great spots to hunt. This should seem somewhat obvious, a hunting spot, like a good fishing spot, is not information that people share willy-nilly. No, a good spot is something to be protected. The fear of all outdoorsman is to role up on their favorite spot only to find tweakers.
Web
More and more outdoorsman are becoming technologically savvy. Almost everyone in the US has a smart phone and that means people are browsing and searching. Because of this, hunting websites and applications are popping up overnight. Which is actually very exciting, and I will tell you why. The more people that we can expose to this fine sport, the better. I’ve even heard that hipsters are getting into hunting. Which is great! Wealthy suburban kids who would otherwise vote against hunting are now joining our ranks.
Google – Outfitters
There are a ton of outfitters listed on the web. Though many outfitter’s websites leave much to be desired, usually they list their phone number or email so you can ask questions.
I would suggest using the following search query
“list of [state] outfitters”
Craigslist
Craigslist.org is a great resources for finding hunting property. Craigslist has hunting property that you can rent, lease, or purchase.
Government Websites
In the last 3 years, state governments have invested heavily in their fish and game websites. The resources you can find are truly amazing. You can find resources on how to hunt and where to hunt. If you haven’t checked recently, I highly recommend checking your local states fish and game website for information.
Forums and Threads
Old school forums and threads are a great place to ask questions and find answers. Highly recommend to use in your search.
New Hunting Websites
HuntDrop
Several of my friends have found good spots to hunt on HuntDrop. HuntDrop is a social image sharing community. People post pictures and brag about their animals. Sometimes people where share where they bagged their prize animal.
Camo Space
Camo Space is a new social network that is geared towards hunting. They brag on their site that they are, “The largest and most complete Outdoor Social Network.” It’s still in it’s infancy but could be a great resource in the future.
Others
www.maximumhunting.com and mybuckstory.com are other social applications that revolve around hunting. They should be considered in your search for the best hunting spots.
