Michigan hunting season Michigans DNR reminds hunters that the 2012 muzzleloader season for deer opened Yesterday in Zone 1 (UP) and Zone 3 (southern zone). The season is open for 10 days in zone 1 and for 17 days in zone 3. The 2012 muzzleloader season starts next Friday Dec 14th in Zone 2 (northern Lower Zone) and runs for 9 days. Hunters must have a current unused firearm license. I left my kid's soccer practice early this past Saturday and boogied down to a small area in Northern Michigan. It was sunny and pretty windy, so I slowly walked the two-tracks Calling and listening. On March 1st Michigan started selling hunting licenses to children of any age. The new Mentored Youth Hunting Program finally allows adults to extend the parenting of their children into the woods! The hunting program is designed to keep kids active and interested in the outdoors. Under this program, a hunting mentor can purchase a child five different hunting licenses for $7.50.
